It's time for the Velvet Revolution
Velvet has become a hot trend and one of the most luxurious, modern fabrics of this winter season. Do you not just love the feeling of velvet lush and delicious as it touches your skin in the winter cold, as it makes you feel incredibly hot!
Velvet has always been a traditional autumn texture; its conjuring images of Christmas night outs and festive fashions - but this autumn the revolution is upon us with a twist and all kinds of velvet variations.
Every girl needs a party dress, and in low temperature, high glamour situations… step forward the Little Velvet Dress. The 2.0 version of the little black dress for this autumn/winter 2011 is intense, seductive and re-tailored for a liquid sensuality.

On The Runways
The autumn/winter 2011 Catwalks were awash with velvet beauties, with Michael Van de Ham leading the way with his rich paint box shades and sections of velvet within the garment cut on a different grain. Peter Dundas adorned his creations with gems and embellishment, whilst Ralph Lauren paid tribute to The East and the Shanghai trend with a jaw dropping emerald number.
Celebrities in Velvet
The celebrities are no stranger to this trend. Fearne Cotton works the look in a rich, navy dress with a high neck and long sleeves, contrasting with the shorter hemlines to show off her lengthy legs to the max.
Milla Jovovich opts for a floor length red velvet maxi dress, the plush fabric perfect for a black tie event. Alexa Chung provides her own twist on velvet with embroidery detailing to update to this seasons look
How to wear:
|
|
• Think beyond formal wear and inject some velvet luxe into your everyday wardrobe – such as a velvet blazer teamed with skinnies.
• If your hesitant, go for subtle touches and pair your velvet with wardrobe staples such as opaque tights, denim and basic cotton shirts.
• Think outside the velvet box. This season, look for bright, opulent colours such as emerald and royal blue to make a big style statement.
• As velvet is a notoriously heavy fabric, pair it with delicate fabrics such as silk and lace. Silk camis under a velvet blazer are especially effective.
• Look out for velvet wedges to add that extra luxurious and plush feel to your outfit.
• Keep an eye out for velvet shorts, a huge look for this A/W when paired with thick tights and boots – a winter glamour look.
• If you don’t like the idea of full on velvet but still want to incorporate the trend into your outfit, try a velvet handbag or headband.
