How to get the Smoky Eyes look
Today's metallic tones are more earthy than flashy, which means they're flattering to a wider array of skin tones, so you should match your metallic shadow to your accessories for a statement-making outcome.
To copy the bevy of celebs sporting smoldering, smoky eyes on the red carpet, stay away from blue hues which can make you look like you have undereye circles. Instead, go for black, grey, brown or if you want "colour," dark green shadows and liners. Then, follow these steps:
1. Apply a cream concealer over your eyelid to create a smooth base for your eyeshadow. Always choose one shade lighter than your skin tone and completely cover any dark circles.

Since the smoky eye is very dark, you want to be certain you have good coverage here.
2. Use a pencil liner (black or grey looks best) to trace your top lashline from the inner corner to the outer gradually getting thicker. Then, use the same pencil to dot between your lower lashes. You can stop either one third of the way in or take it all of the way in to the inner corner. It all depends on how dramatic of a look you want. Smudge both lash lines with a cotton swab or an eyeliner brush.
3. Apply a neutral shade all over your lids right up to the brow. e.g. an almond colour.
Then sweep powder shadow (brown, grey and dark green all work with black or grey liner) over your lid and into your crease, blending the colour up and outward. Gradually build up to your desired colour.
TIP: To prevent colour from fading and give your lids a more shimmery finish, pat a cream shadow over the concealer on your lid first, wait five minutes, then top with a matching powder shadow.
4. Dust a lighter, neutral eyeshadow (such as ivory) over just your brow bone. To brighten eyes, apply white eyeliner or eyeshadow to or around your tear ducts.
5. Use a black kohl pencil to line the top of your lashes and smudge it in with a cotton bud.
6. Finish with two coats of black mascara. You may want to put a card between your eyelids and lashes to avoid messing up the eyeshadow.
